About Drill For Absentee
20th century post-hardcore
Drill For Absentee is an American math rock and post-hardcore trio from Philadelphia, PA. The band’s original lineup of Michael Nace (guitar, vocals), Kevin Kelly (bass, vocals), and Bryan Sargent (drums) formed in the winter of 1995 and stopped playing at the end of 1999.
During their active years, DFA recorded several times, but released only 7 songs across 3 releases: the band’s self-titled 7” single in 1997 and the Circle Music EP in 1998 — both released on MindWalk Recordings — as well as the inclusion of the track “Naked Singularity” from the Circle Music EP on Tranquility Base Records’ "The Eagle Has Landed" LPx2 compilation.
Twenty-five years later, the band has reformed, adding Okinawa-based drummer Ken Kuniyoshi to create and release new music. The 4-song "Strand of a Lake, Volume 1" EP was released digitally on September 13, 2022, with Volume 2 set to be released in 2025.
