Released in 1999, Drill For Absentee's "Circle Music" EP was the band's most substantial release before its breakup in early 2000.
Four of the songs were recorded at WGNS Studios in Washington, DC with Geoff Turner, the singer/guitarist of Grey Matter and well-known DC sound engineer who recorded many of DFA's influences and contemporaries. The last song, "Process Music For Numbers Ascending From Five," was recorded by Gilroys drummer Matt Magarahan in the abandoned ground floor of a house that he lived in. All 5 tracks were recorded throughout 1998.

Tracks 1 through 4 recorded at WGNS Studios in Washington DC by Geoff Turner. [Track 3 on January 23rd, 1998. Tracks 1, 2 and 4 on July 17th and 18th, 1998. Track 5 recorded at 9 North Church by Matt Magarahan on October 3rd, 1998.

The front cover circle image was hand designed by Michael Nace. it is based on a circle clef created and used by classical composer George Crumb. Michael used pencil to add the notation to the clef. What you see is the music for a piece he had written intended for 45 guitars.
